Diana & Krista: A Perfect, Sun-Kissed Castle Elopement

It’s the end of August. School supplies await in marked bags, lined up from youngest to oldest. A pink flamingo velvet backpack in soon-to-be-not mint condition hangs in between an appallingly obnoxious sequence unicorn backpack and noble blue Jansport. The weather is starting its war: warm, bright sunny days try to hold on against the increasing strength of a strong northerly breeze that will soon take within its grasp the remnants of summer, plucking leaf by leaf off of every tree as we huddle into our sweaters and sip a warm drink. But today’s sky is a gorgeous shade — a cerulean blue I find myself staring into — reminiscing about the summer’s adventures, dreaming about the celebrations to come, and remembering Krista and Diana’s insanely gorgeous gallery.

Their June wedding was a dream. A rare sunny and hot Irish spring day that gave way to a perfect setting of sparkling silvery water and green hills as bright and soft as the lichen that cover them awakened the Burren out of its mysterious winter slumber.  Gregans Castle simply shined in the sunlight.  The castle tower stood among the wild garden, a tower straight out of a medieval fairy tale. And Krista and Diana — ethereal in their gorgeous gowns — glowed in their love and excitement for their wedding day enough to rival the sun himself.  We love the “something blue” in their cake.  Their matching bridal bouquets are seasonal and simply beautiful.  The white and ivory tones really let the greenery in this part of Ireland shine through to make the perfect, timeless photo over and over again. But most of all, we’re in love with how much in love their are with each other.  Their journey together with their photographers — Awake & Dreaming Photography — throughout the area created one of the most stunning galleries I’ve seen and showcases how brilliant and romantic Ireland can be.

From castles to ruins, countryside to coast, Waterlily Weddings is so incredibly excited to share with you the gorgeous intimate elopement of Diana and Krista.  This, is their story…

A Race to Ireland

Diana and Krista met at a local bar in Portland, Maine. It was quite the date that ended in a race down the road to settle who was a faster runner between the two.  Sprint forward to a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine where there, among the incredible natural beauty, Krista told Diana she was going to marry her one day.  In the blink of an eye, they were planning a wedding!

An intimate elopement was always the choice for Krista and Diana.  “We have both been to a lot of weddings and realized sometimes that when you involve a lto of people on your special day, you lose sight of what’s important and what really matters to you as a couple.  We still wanted to do more than just go to a courthouse and decided on an elopement to Ireland since we wanted to travel there anyway,” they recall.

Once Ireland was decided on, they began exploring options and locations.  Weather was a concern, as even late spring could bring on a decent bout of rain, so they decided to explore a venue with an indoor option as well as an incredible outdoor setting for the ceremony and pictures.  Under the guideship of Waterlily Weddings, a gorgeous elopement was planned at some of the most picturesque and trustworthy venues in Ireland.

A Sunny Day In the West

Diana and Krista awoke the morning of their wedding at Gregans Castle to a rare brilliant, sunny sky. They chose to spend the morning together getting ready, enjoyed a nice breakfast, and quietly calmed the active butterflies in Diana’s stomach.

A detail we love is they both walked up to the steps of the tower to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” — a perfect way to set the tone for the day! Their spiritual ceremony was tailored to their personalities, working in a little Irish traditions as well like the handfasting.  Krista and Diana loved the intimacy of the tower’s interior: “The most romantic part of the day was the ceremony…with a fire and a few candles lit in the background, we could completely focus on each other.”

Krista and Diana made sure to really focus the day on themselves and take in every moment Ireland had to offer. They rented a car and driver to take them around the area, their photographer in tow to document. “We were able to enjoy the scenery as we drove from place the place and just kind of relax,” they recall. “We also saw dolphins and our photographers were able to capture them! It all was an amazing experience and I don’t think we could ask for a more perfect day!”
