Ireland has many incredible features to take advantage of for your dream destination wedding. But one outstanding feature in particular is the unique experience to work with real, authentic ruins on your wedding day. There are many incredible sites to consider throughout Ireland: huge castles that Irish noble families once called home;  round watch towers covered in climbing ivy and Irish moss that glisten in the morning light; towering stone walls with gothic arches that once served as cathedrals 600 years ago; little monasteries dotted throughout the countryside that once you step inside are instantly filled with a sense of perfect tranquility; and unique spiritual sites (stone circles, mounds, structures) dating back to the Stone Age that completely sets Ireland apart from the rest of the world.

These sites can serve as incredible backdrop for your pictures that will truly make your wedding day apart from the rest. Many of them sit in spectacular scenery — along the coastline, in the middle of the green countryside — and can add another level for your wedding portraits.  They are perfect locations for your “first look” shots and take photos after your ceremony.

Some of these heritage sites are also available to host your ceremony!  Waterlily Weddings specializes in creating bespoke wedding ceremonies that draw from the history and atmosphere of these sites, taking inspiration from the history and traditions of Ireland and merging them with your vision. Many of these sites carry with them a unique sense of tranquility and peace that perfectly sets the tone for an intimate wedding or elopement. Some of these ruins are even more impressive in person, together with the right styling and design to create a ceremony setting that will quite literally take your breath away.

Since Ireland opened availability to use some heritage sites in 2014, we’re hoping more and more couples will consider incorporating this truly unique and spectacular detail into their wedding day. We’ve already had the pleasure to work with a few spectacular sites include Corcomroe Abbey, Uragh Stone Circle, and ruins on the Aran Islands.  Check our BLOG and PORTFOLIO for more information and inspiration on how some of our clients have incorporated Irish ruins into their wedding day!

We are very much looking forward to exploring more of these incredible heritage sites and incorporating them together with you for your dream destination wedding in Ireland!
