Styling Corner: The Garden Style

There are many different kinds of styles you can utilize for your wedding day, from traditional to modern to whimsical and everything in between. This post is going to analyze a perfect example of one of our favorites styles — garden — and how it can work for your destination wedding in Ireland. A shout out to the uber-talented team at Frog Prince Designs who excel not only at this style, but a variety whom we’ve had the distinct pleasure of working with over the years!

The Garden Style is defined quite simply as “inspired by the garden.” It’s heavy on natural elements like foliage, greenery, and flowers, but also usually involves even more garden and even forest elements like trees, potted plants, fruits, and lots of texture! It’s an opportunity to work in a great deal of dimension and texture, fragrance, and create an environment that can engage you and your guests on multiple sensory levels. Let’s look at a wedding we worked with with Frog Prince on earlier this year which sees how you can transform a hotel into a breathtaking garden!

The ceremony space obviously took place indoors. Working in a lush floral arch added a dramatic focal point that easily focused the eye direction center stage. Ground florals laid about helped add to the feeling you were walking in a garden (despite carpet on the ground!). Trees and potted plants in various heights and textures closed up the neutrality gaps with the walls and created a really intimate space. Love the addition of garden statues and benches as well — a lovely unexpected touch to the space! But what I wanted to point out here is how the florals were constructed with a lot of movement and weren’t strict or compactly arranged; that movement allowing for height and twining about helps to add to setting the tone. This was echoed in the way the arrangements were placed as well — not in strict rows or lines, but rather a sense of movement again.

The table setting took the theme again, creating clusters of arrangements from larger compote style spilling out onto the tables to smaller potted ferns and bud and julep vases. Each bloom is carefully curated for its color, size, but most importantly — it’s shape– for this effect to work. You want a mix of height and lots and lots of texture, but you want to retain the integrity of a naturally-growing floral. Accenting with beautiful classic Irish crystal and gold and silver elements with clean white candles really took this look to the next level of elegant garden theme.

Don’t forget to carry your theme to other elements of the day! Although this gorgeous buttercream cake is made with sugar sculpted flowers, they are done in a similar style and movement to match the vibe and feel of the rest of the decor.
