Kristin & Will: Stunning Green – Gold – Black Themed Intimate Autumn Castle Wedding

Intimate Weddings

We are so in love with this dreamy autumn wedding! Kris and Will hail from Minnesota and braved the Irish fall to hold a gorgeous, simple and elegant intimate wedding at one of our favorite venues — Castle Durrow. Everything paired perfectly with the rich autumnal tones of the Irish countryside: rich shades of green from deep forest and evergreen to pops of lichen and moss, and the shades of gold of the falling leaves made for some spectacular photos as you’ll see! The perfect accent color? BLACK! Love how the little pops of black can instantly elevate the design to elegant and anchor the tone to something dreamy and chic! We love Kristin’s dress and hairband and Will looked smashingly handsome in a classic black tux. Although the dress code was formal, the overall day was the perfect cozy and relaxed intimate wedding they were hoping for!

There to capture the day is the always incredible Rob of Epic Love Photography. Please enjoy.

A castle connection

Kristin and Will met online through match.com and had their first date in July of 2014.  A destination wedding was always the obvious choice for them. “Will proposed at Neuschwanstein Castle in Scheangau, Germany. We love traveling and castles hence where he proposed and where we got married!” Their first trip together was to Ireland, where they fell in love with the scenery and people, so when it came time to choose a destination for their wedding Ireland came to the top of the list. Castle Durrow in particular stood out: “It seemed beautiful and more quaint for the small, intimate wedding we wanted,” Kristin recalls.

The Day

The whole day started off pretty relaxed, just what they envisioned for the vibe for their day. “I remember feeling so calm. I felt like I should’ve been more frantic with how big of day it was, but I felt so comfortable and grateful. I spent the morning with my mom and sister.  My sister had secretly made a video with my family and friends that weren’t there wishing us well. That was really special! I also wrote Will a letter about how excited I was to marry him!” recalls Kristin. We love her gorgeous Giambatista Valli dress complete with black detail, matching perfectly her little black bow tattoo and standing out exquisitely against the rich gold and green tones of the Irish autumn season. The intimate spiritual ceremony took place in one of the cozy rooms in the castle. “I wanted it to be personal and special to us,” says Kristin. And her godfather officiated the ceremony to add a really lovely personal and meaningful touch.  As the guests relaxed with some drinks and canpes, Kristin and Will explored a bit of the grounds with their photographer before returning for a multi-course dinner. We love the cake — a two tier carrot and chocolate confection echoing Kristin’s dress design in the details! So elegant and chic!

Favorite Moments

“Everything. It was really a dream being in such a beautiful setting with the people we love the most,” says Kristin. “Writing the love letter to Will and the ceremony were really, really special. And I’ll never forget seeing Will for the first time.  I’d change nothing about the day — it was perfect.”

A Piece of Advice

“Make it about you and your partner and what you love and it will be perfect! It was very personal to us and that was what made it special. Planning a wedding in Ireland from Minnesota felt intimidating, but I hired Michelle and it was the best thing I ever did.”
